New Chair, Members Elected to the Senior Living Certification Commission Board of Commissioners

(Alexandria, Va., June 15, 2018) — The Senior Living Certification Commission (SLCC) announced today that Brenda Bacon, president and CEO of Brandywine Living, was elected to serve as the new chairman of the SLCC Board of Commissioners.

“The families and residents who we serve in this fast-growing industry deserve the best,” said Bacon. “The SLCC supports the growth of strong, talented, and professionally trained leaders, and I am proud to be a part of this initiative. As the challenges and opportunities facing our industry become more complex, our executives who have received certification through the SLCC will be in increasingly greater demand.”

Bacon cofounded Brandywine Living in 1996; since that time, the company has grown to 29 communities across six states, with more currently under development. She is also a past chairman and member of the Argentum Board of Directors (2007-2018). Previously, Bacon served as chief of management and planning, a cabinet-level position under New Jersey Governor James J. Florio from 1989 to 1993.

Additionally, Christy Contardi Stone, SVP of human capital & strategic initiatives at Welltower, Inc., was elected to serve as secretary-treasurer, and two new commissioners were elected to join the board: David Eskenazy, president, Merrill Gardens; and Stephanie Handelson, CEO, Harmony Senior Services.

SLCC would also like to recognize and thank the following commissioners for their dedicated years of service: SLCC founding chairman Tim Buchanan, president and CEO, Legend Senior Living (2016-2018); and Dan Hirschfeld, president, Genesis Rehabilitation Services (2016-2018).
