Senior Living Certification Commission to Offer On-Demand Testing for Certified Director of Assisted Living Exam

New SLCC testing model offers more flexibility, convenience, and rapid results

Alexandria, Va. – The Senior Living Certification Commission is unveiling more flexibility for senior living professionals seeking to earn the Certified Director of Assisted Living credential.

Beginning in January 2019, the Commission will offer on-demand testing for the CDAL exam enabling executive directors to take the test at their convenience. Previously, the exam was offered during specific testing periods throughout the year. To date, 74 senior living companies have at least one CDAL on staff, reflecting the industry’s commitment to advancing excellence since testing began in 2016.

“We received feedback from CDAL candidates who wanted to test but were required to wait several months until the next testing window. We also heard from candidates who didn’t want to wait months after testing to receive their exam results,” said Argentum VP of Quality Improvement John Schulte. “The new approach will allow CDAL candidates to test when they’re ready and get their results the same day.”

The SLCC’s CDAL program was developed by practicing subject matter experts in senior living and is based on the unique knowledge and skills required by an executive director, as identified through an extensive job task analysis study.

The CDAL program provides executive directors with an opportunity to demonstrate competence by meeting certification requirements, including successful completion of the examination. The CDAL credential is the gold standard for assisted living executive directors, demonstrating commitment to professionalism and resident quality of life.
